BDS, ISM Graduates wait for Justice, GMC Jammu & Sgr prefers MBBS

Even as the Government order that was issued in connection with the establishment of two new temporary COVID hospitals in Jammu as well as in Srinagar made MBBS, ISM, and BDS eligible for the posts of Medical Officers, the GMCs Jammu and Srinagar have omitted BDS and ISM from the eligibility criteria in a notification issued for filling up of these posts.

A walk-in-interview notice-which is scheduled to be held on May 24-issued by the GMC, Jammu notified that 35 posts of Medical Officers are going to be filled under Level-9 PayScale, while setting the eligibility criteria MBBS, excluding others. The same has done by the GMC Srinagar.

For the establishment of the two hospitals, the Government has created around 70 such posts, 35 each in Jammu and Srinagar with overall post creation of over 1300 at both places.
The move of including BDS had rekindled hopes among the aspirants with BDS degrees as there has not been any post creation for the Dental Surgeons in the last 12 years across the UT of J&K. However, the notification that has come from the GMC Jammu has been termed as “unfortunate” by the aspirants.

“It is a mockery and nothing else that has been made with our careers; one fine day we are eligible and the next day we are not,” an aspirant told Excelsior.
Principal GMC, Jammu Dr. Shashi Sudhan told Excelsior that the Government has directed them to carry out the recruitment in a step-wise manner and based on the response to the advertisement. “We have been told to start with MBBS,” she said.

Further, in connection with the recruitment of the staff whose appointment is temporary, the GMC, Jammu has advertised 313 new posts for the upcoming 500 bedded temporary COVID Hospital in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The GMC Srinagar, while advertising the posts of the Medical officers, has also kept the eligibility criteria as MBBS.

Meanwhile, the Society of Dental Surgeons, J&K (SDSJK) has taken a strong note of the exclusion of BDS graduates for 500 DRDO COVID Hospital. It said that the walk-in interview notice issued by GMC Jammu “has not followed the Government directions,” SDSJK said.

SDSJK has appealed to LG Manoj Sinha & FC H&ME Atal Dulloo to direct Principal GMC Jammu “to issue corrigendum, publish new recruitment notification as per the said Government order and the same be conveyed to the Principal GMC Srinagar,” it said.

The posts that have been notified by GMC Jammu include 35 posts of Medical Officers, 47 posts of Pharmacists, 12 posts of Lab Technicians, 8 posts of X-Ray Technicians, 16 Nursing Supervisors, and 195 Junior staff nurses.

The GMC Srinagar also invited online applications from eligible candidates belonging to the Kashmir division for the posts of Staff Nurse, Lab. Technician, Pharmacist, and Anaesthesia Technician.
According to the advertisement notice issued by Principal Government Medical College Srinagar, the submission of online application forms will commence from 22nd May 2021 from 6 pm while the last date to close the application process has been fixed as 27 May up to 4 pm.

    • the posts are yet to be advertised, it is very sad to see that JKNHM has failed to advertise these posts ASAP, at the same time other posts were advertised by GMC Jammu and Srinagar.
but whenever these posts are advertised we will update on our website.
