Samba, Jammu and Kashmir – A shocking incident took place in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir as a Junior Assistant in the District Industries Centre (DIC) was caught red-handed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while accepting a bribe.

According to an official statement, the CBI received a complaint that Gopal Raj Sharma, Junior Assistant in the DIC, was demanding Rs 20,000 as a bribe in exchange for the issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the complainant. The complainant had taken a loan of Rs 10 lakh under the Prime Minister’s Status Generation Programme (PMEGP) scheme, sponsored by the DIC in Samba.

After verifying the complaint, the CBI set a trap and caught Sharma while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant. The official also stated that searches are being conducted at the office and residential premises of the accused.

In its ongoing efforts to combat the drug problem in the society, the police made a significant bust in Pattan, arresting a suspected drug peddler and recovering a large quantity of illegal substances. According to official sources, the Police Post in Palhallan received a tip-off about drug activity in the Ghat area of the town.

Acting on the information, the SDPO of Pattan, Mohammad Nawaz Khanday, directed the Do Palhallan Sub-Inspector, Aaeraf, to swiftly move in and apprehend the suspect. The operation was carried out successfully, and the police were able to arrest the accused, Sahil Ahmad Malik, and seize 104 grams of the banned substance known as charas.

A case has been registered against the suspect under relevant sections of the law, and the investigation is ongoing. The police have also appealed to the community to come forward with any information they may have about drug peddlers in their neighborhoods.

A police official stated that those caught engaging in drug peddling activities will face the full extent of the law. “Our relentless efforts to crack down on drug peddlers serve to reassure the community that we are committed to keeping our society drug-free,” he added.

Srinagar, Feb 8: Jammu and Kashmir Police informed to have arrested three Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) employees for allegedly assaulting a traffic cop and breaking the booth in Srinagar.
“All three (3) accused have been formally arrested in the case after legal formalities”, police said in a tweet.
“The three (3)had also kidnapped the traffic personnel in a car after creating a ruckus. FIR No 06/2023 stands registered in shergari PS” Police added.

Earlier Police said one SMC employee aggrieved by challan on not having HSRP broke a traffic booth and assaulted traffic personnel on duty with the help of others in Srinagar today.

“In this regard FIR has been registered in Shergari PS against 3 delinquent SMC employees”, a Srinagar Police tweet earlier said.

Police Busts Militant Hideout in Kishtwar, Arms And Ammunition Recovered

Srinagar : Police on Sunday said that it along with Army busted a militant hideout in Nawapachi area of Kishtwar district of Jammu division.

In a handout, the police said that based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation of Army and J&K Police was launched in Sarkundu area of Marwah which led to busting of hideout. The forces recovered Two Grenades, Two Magazines of AK 47, 109 rounds of AK 47 ammunition, 56 rounds of Pika, one Magazine of .303 Rifle, 27 rounds of 303 Rifle ammunition, one Detonator and Safety Fuse.

According to police spokesman, this recovery of warlike stores from sensitive Navapachchi area has delivered a decisive blow to the nefarious designs of militants attempting to reorganise themselves. It has reiterated the total domination of security forces in the Kishtwar District and also showcased the close co-ordination between Army and J&K Police, reads the statement.

SSP Awantipora chairs Crime/Security review meeting

In order to review the crime/security scenario of Police District, SSP Awantipora Shri Mohd Yousif-JKPS chaired a meeting with SDPOs/SHOs and Incharge PPs of Police District at DPL Awantipora.

The meeting was also attended by SP DAR Shri Syed Fayaz Ahmad. During the meeting, law and order scenario, follow up of previous meetings and various security measures were discussed for ensuring peace and stability in the district. Various aspects of policing including investigation of cases, crime disposal, verifications, disposal of NDPS, UAPA cases, inquest proceedings and other issues related to accountable policing were also discussed.

While interacting with the officers, SSP Awantipora reiterated the importance of strengthening the counter insurgency and security grid of their respective areas, besides taking stringent action against those involved in anti-national activities and also to keep proper surveillance on areas of concern. The officers were urged to make all possible efforts to fight against menace of drug abuse and work with dedication to prevent social crimes. SSP Awantipora emphasized upon the participating officers to ensure quantitative and qualitative disposal of under investigation criminal cases and to take stringent action against those who are involved in illegal excavation of soil, sand and minerals.

All officers were instructed to adopt a public-centric approach and to ensure redressal of their grievances.“`

Pertinently, unknown gunmen fired upon two non-local labourers in the Rakh Moomin area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday evening. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
