DU Exams 2022: Odd-even formula for online OBE and Offline exams to be adopted by university

University of Delhi has announced it will be conducting online exams as well as offline exams. The March-April examinations will be held in online mode as Open Book Examinations and the May-June examinations will be conducted offline in physical mode.

As per a notification issued by DU on February 12, 2022, the exams for students in Semester I, III and V, the exams will be conducted through OBE mode and the exams for Semesters II, IV and VI will be conducted in physical mode. Upon reopening, the first years have been given the option of hybrid mode of classes whereas the second and final year students have been asked to attend offline.

Regarding the current examination patterns, DU Vice Chancellor, Yogesh Singh, stated that all students will be given enough time to prepare for the different exam formats. “First year students have been given all the flexibility they need with the option to attend online/offline classes prior to their Online OBE. But the second- and third-year students must attend offline classes which will help them get used to the physical mode of exams in May,” he added.

“First semester exams will be in the third week of March and in online OBE mode once physical classes disperse on March 10. Following the reopening orders of the government, first year students will only be able to attend 17-18 days of offline classes so OBE seems like the best option for them as planning for offline exams for this batch, paper printing and other preparation might extend and delay the process,” stated RS Rawat, Dean of Examinations to News Agencies.

The second – and third-year students will be appearing for offline exams as their semester end examination will commence in the months of May-June, hence giving the varsity more than enough time to prepare and also giving the students enough classes to attend before they appear for their exams.

A definite system of examinations is underway for DU as it reopened its campus for the first time in two years. However as of now, based on the recommendations of the working group of examinations, the current pattern is OBE for odd semesters and offline exams for the even semesters. The pattern is subject to change as the varsity continues to reopen and welcome students.
