The skill test was conducted first, and a list of qualified candidates was issued on 15.1.2022. The written test was conducted from 20.1.2022 to 24.1.2022, and a tentative merit list was issued on 19.3.2022, which included the names of some of the applicants.

However, some of the applicants challenged the decision of the JKSSB to apply the normalization process in the finalization of the selection process. They argued that the normalization method was unscientific, non-transparent, and arbitrary, and there was a wide scope of manipulation in the final selection. They also claimed that the normalization process was adopted suddenly, just a day before the written examination, as a result of which they could not challenge it before an appropriate forum.

The JKSSB, in response, contended that it was made clear in the advertisement notification itself that if required, marks scored by the candidates in the written test would be normalized to determine the final merit list. They also claimed that the information regarding applying the normalization method was given to all the candidates through notices dated 27.10.2021 and 19.1.2022.

The matter was brought before the Tribunal, which found that the applicants were well aware of the fact that the normalization process would be followed in the final result. The Tribunal, therefore, dismissed the challenge and upheld the selection list.

The release of the selection list is a significant step in the recruitment process and will bring relief to the candidates who have been waiting for the results. The successful candidates will be appointed as Junior Assistants in various government departments in Jammu and Kashmir.
