Kupwara: Jabri is one of the remotest villages located along Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir. The village remains cut off from the main populated area for upto four to five months in winter due to heavy snowfall in the area. Also due to its proximity to line of control the village has suffered a lot due to terrorist atrocities and Pakistan initiated cease fire violation in the past.
With peace ushering situation in the region, various initiatives are reaching the village to improve the situation. As part of such initiative ‘Aseem Foundation’ in coordination with Indian Army has undertaken the mission to develop Jabri village into a modern model village. To achieve this larger aim a solar electrification project supported by the NGO and executed by Indian Army was completed in three phases of which third and final phase was inaugurated virtually on 19 November 2022 by Maj Gen AS Pendarkar, YSM, General Officer Commanding 28 Infantry Division via video conferencing.
The completion of the project will ensure availability of electricity throughout the year to the residents of Jabri. This initiative will not only improve the present living standards of villagers, but will also ensure better future of their children.
‘Aseem Foundation’ with an aim to make Jabri a model village will also undertake other projects in the future incl micro hydro power plant, women empowerment initiative and various other initiatives.
With successful execution of the project, the residents of the village are very happy and praise the Indian Army and Aseem Foundation for the excellent work done by them towards improving their lives.
