“I had not prepared for JEE seriously. I had just appeared for it as a practice for the NEET exam so that I could gain some experience from a paper set by NTA itself,” says the NEET topper with AIR 3.

Her Class 10 board exam score was 96.8% while her Class 12 score was 97.6%.

Karthika, who secured a perfect 720 out of 720 marks in the medical entrance exam, attributed her success to her extensive error analysis and her determination to not repeat the same errors.

She received 690 out of 720 in her first mock NEET exam at Aakash and was confident she could push up her marks in the coming days.

But then, she realized she wasn’t faring well with numerical, especially in Physics.

“I used to make silly mistakes like reading diameter instead of radius,” she says.

She found select chapters (such as rotation motion, and semiconductors) difficult to comprehend. Her confidence was rattled when she scored just 100 out of 180 in physics at a class test.

It was then she realized the importance of doing error analysis.

“My parents told me that feeling dejected was not going to give her better marks. They made me realize that when I get disappointed, I would make the same mistake again and again, and remain in the vicious cycle,” she says.

“They urged me that I understand my mistakes and not to repeat them,” Karthika recollects.

Tanmay said students from J&K have as much potential as others in the country.

“We need to stop being content in our own little world and go out to explore new horizons. If I can achieve this, anyone from J&K can achieve this,” he said.

The 18-year-old adds that consistency is the key. “I used to study for three to five hours a day after school and whenever it was a holiday, I’d increase the hours to seven to eight hours. I always set a target for each day, and when I accomplished that, it used to give me a sense of euphoria and motivated me to further work towards my target,” he said.

“With an aim to get admission in one of the best institutions of the country, Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi in my mind, I left my hometown to pursue Class 11 and 12 from Delhi, but God had different plans for me and I was blessed to be eligible to be selected in India’s top institution in medical sciences–AIIMS Delhi,” he said.

He elaborated that he has made multiple timetables and schedules but always fail to stick to them. “Even though every day I thought that I would follow a systematic approach to study but I failed miserably in doing so”, quoted Mrinal

After scrapping the idea of a systematic approach to studying for the NEET exam, Mrinal improvised on a lot of things. He used to merely study for 45 minutes and then go for a break, as studying for longer hours was not the ideal way for him. Hence, then he started making goals for every day and then sticking to them and making sure that they are completed on the same day.

While preparing he also busted a myth that longer hours to study result in a good academic record. He studied in batches but made sure that he is able to grasp everything in that time frame. Spilling beans on the secret ingredient that worked for him in cracking NEET 2021 exam with AIR 1, was following “what works for you“! He further said, every student is different and therefore they must look out for what works for them and help them in achieving their goals.
