Srinagar Admin conducts market checking in various parts of the City

SRINAGAR: In order to prevent profiteering and black marketing by business establishments operating in Srinagar, the special Market Checking teams of District Administration Srinagar Friday conducted market checking in various parts of Srinagar City to ensure all essential commodities are sold at Government approved rates as per the quality standards with sufficient availability of consumables.

The drive was conducted on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar (DC), Mohammad Aijaz Asad to curb the practice of illegal profiteering in markets ahead of the winter season.

The checking squads comprised of senior officials from Revenue, Police, Food Safety, FCS&CA and Legal Metrology Departments under the supervision of SDM East and SDM West conducted intensive market checking in Hari Singh High Street, Maharaj Bazar, Amira Kadal, Sanat Nagar, Rawalpora, Natipora, Channapora, Qamarwari, Parimpora, Shalteng and other adjoining markets of the City.

During the drive dozens of food business units were inspected, while several erring shopkeepers were also booked found failing to maintain the quality of food items, not displaying rate lists of essential commodities, selling expiry products, besides indulging in practices of illegal profiteering and sale of underweight products.

A fine to the tune of Rs 40000 was also imposed on the erring shopkeepers for violating different provisions of Acts.

During the market checking rotten vegetables, fruits and other food items were also destroyed on the spot.(KNS)

Sports Council organizes special talent hunt programme at GGHSS Chanapora Srinagar

SRINAGAR: J&K Sports Council embarking on a mission to extend the reach of sports activities to far-off areas of the J&K has now added a new vertical to the program, tapping the talent in school.

In one of its first kind, a two-day special talent hunt programme commenced in Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) Chanapora Srinagar today.

On day one, more than five hundred students from different schools under the cluster of GHSS Chanapora along with students from the host school participated in day-long selection trials at the premises.

The selection trials were conducted by the Sports Council coach duo of Syed Shafqat Shafi and Shabir Ahmad in Judo and Yoga respectively.

The students had registered themselves for the selection trials well in advance with the physical education wing of the school.

The selection trails in the disciplines of Judo and Yoga held today shall follow with trials in Football, Cricket, and Pencak Silat tomorrow.(KNS)
