The future of more than 20000 medical assistant students in Kashmir is at stake since the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Students are demanding for registration of their degrees in the previously enacted State Pharmacy Council (SPC).
The students who have burned their nights and spent worth lakhs from the hard-earned money of their parents for getting their degrees from various government and private institutions of Jammu and Kashmir are now wailing on roads for the registration of their degrees.
“Prior to the abolition of Article 370, the MAC diploma holders were used to registering with the Jammu and Kashmir state pharmacy council as medical assistants/pharmacists. Now the pharmacy council has stopped their registration by virtue of extension of the Pharmacy Act 1948 to the whole jurisdiction of J&K and Ladakh.
Health and Medical Education Department is constantly taking this matter with PCI and is asking for a permanent solution, but till now PCI has not came up with any positive response says an official at Atal Dulloo office when approached.
Meanwhile Political parties have assured Medical Assistants to ease their problems once the Assembly elections are held in J&K, Weather it be BJP, NC Apni Party or Panthers Party.
From 1 & half year, Medical Assistant (Pharmacist) students of Jammu and Kashmir are on roads for justice, demands for registration of diploma under the Central Pharmacy Act.
Those students who have completed their courses are now at the stage of overage. They too have been seriously affected by the enactment of the new law.
Students are very disappointed and upset from administration as they are protesting since last one year continuously for the injustice done but it’s very unfortunate to say that so far they didn’t have seen any kind of official statement on this issue from the UT administration.
It is the matter of serious concern that more than 20 thousand youth who have successfully completed the course of Medical Assistant by spending a handsome amount as fee and two years of time of their precious life, have been left to suffer.
At the same time JK UT administration is violating the Right to Education Act 2009 in many ways.
The principal of the Government Medical College in Srinagar, Dr. Saima Rashid, said that as such “the career of these 20,000 medical assistants is in the air”. “We have also written to the government about this issue but we have not heard from them yet,” she added.
Medical Assistants hold good knowledge of dispensing medicines, they go under 6 – 12 months Internship at different hospitals like SMHS, Bone & Joint Hospital Barzulla, SKIMS, etc. and because of that they are preferred by GMCs as Junior Pharmacists over B Pharma and D Pharma aspirants said senior Dr. Irfan at B&J Hospital Barzulla.
What is Medical Assistant Course?
MA/Pharmacist course is a diploma in Pharmacy and Clinical Training courses in Jammu and Kashmir,
it came under recognition with the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly Act under the constitution of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir.
What happened to Medical Assistants after the Article 370 Abrogation?
After the abrogation of Article 370, Pharmacist students of Jammu and Kashmir were not allowed by the administration for the Drug License registration.
Meanwhile, the same Pharmacists were getting Drug License and Registration as a Pharmacist pre – abrogation of Article 370.
