Srinagar: Srinagar witnessed the coldest night of this winter as the mercury slipped below freezing point at most places in Kashmir on Sunday night, officials said.

The central Kashmir’s Srinagar city officials said has recorded a low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, the lowest of the season so far again.

Pahalgam in south Kashmir, which serves as the base for the annual Amarnath yatra, was the coldest place in the Valley at minus 4.6°C degrees Celsius while Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a temperature of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius, they added.

Meanwhile, a MeT offical said that there is a possibility of light snow over plains and lower reaches, light to moderate snow over middle and higher reaches during 9th December (evening) to 10th December (evening) particularly over north, northwestern, central parts of Kashmir and South Kashmir (KNS).

Srinagar, Oct 30: Weather was dry in J&K during the last 24 hours as the Meteorological (MeT) office on Sunday forecast inclement weather during the first week of November.

“During the 1st week of November from 1st to 6th, the weather is most likely to remain generally cloudy with possibility of light to moderate rain/snowfall over middle and higher reaches of J&K at scattered places of J&K (forecast confidence >75 per cent).

“During the above period there will be a drastic fall in day temperature.

“Snowfall and low temperature may lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation, mainly over Zojila, Mughal Road, Sadnatop, etc.

“Farmers are advised to harvest their agriculture produces, fruits, etc. which are prone to snowfall and low temperature,” the MeT department statement said.

Srinagar had 4.2, Pahalgam minus 0.4 and Gulmarg 1.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

Drass in Ladakh region had minus 4.9, Kargil minus 2 and Leh minus 3 as the minimum temperature.

Jammu had 16.1, Katra 14.3, Batote 7.5, Banihal 4.2 and Bhaderwah 5 as the minimum temperature.

Srinagar: Weather department on Saturday said that snowfall and low temperature may lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation, mainly over Zojila, Mugha Road, Sadnatop, etc, during the first week of November.

“As per today’s conditions, for whole 1st week of November (1-6th) weather is most likely to remain generally cloudy with possibility of light to moderate rain/snowfall over middle and higher reaches of J&K at scattered places of J&K (forecast confidence >75%),” a meteorological department official said here.

He said during the period, there will be “drastic fall” in day temperature and there days will be colder.

Regarding probable impacts, he said, “Snowfall and low temperature may lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation, mainly over Zojila, Mugha Road, Sadnatop, etc.”

The weather department also reiterated advisory to farmers and urged them to harvest their agricultural produce, fruits etc. which are prone to snowfall and low temperature.

Regarding the temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 2.6°C against 3.5°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.2°C below normal for the summer capital during this time of the year, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 2.2°C against 2.6°C on the previous night. The temperature was below 0.4°C than the normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he told GNS.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at minus 0.9°C against minus 0.9°C on the previous night and it was 0.4°C below normal for the south Kashmir resort, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of 5.2°C against 4.7°C on the previous night and it was 0.9°C above normal for the place, he said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 2.2°C against 1.5°C on the previous night and it was 0.5°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 1.6°C against 2.2°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 0.8°C below normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

Jammu recorded a low of 16.0 against 14.6°C on the previous night. It was 0.1°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 4.6°C (below normal by 0.3°C), Batote 7.6°C (0.3°C below normal), Katra 13.7°C (above normal by 0.6°C) and Bhadarwah 5.6°C (above normal by 1.0°C). (GNS)

Srinagar: The higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir received light snowfall during the last 24 hours, causing a dip in the day temperature.

The Meteorological (MeT) office on Wednesday said that mainly clear sky with chances of light rain was expected in the next 24 hours.

“Light snowfall occurred in the higher reaches of J&K during the last 24 hours. Mainly clear sky with chances of light rain are likely during the next 24 hours,” an official of the MeT department said.

Srinagar had 5, Pahalgam 0.6 and Gulmarg minus 0.4 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

Drass town in Ladakh region had minus 3.4 and Kargil 0.4 as the minimum temperature.

Jammu had 16.8, Katra 14.2, Batote 6.5, Banihal 4.6 and Bhaderwah 4.9 as the minimum temperature.

As regards the mercury, he said that Srinagar recorded a low of 9.6°C, same as on the previous night. The temperature was 1.1°C above normal for the summer capital during this time of the year, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 7.6°C against 8.2°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.3°C above normal there, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 4.8°C against 4.9°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of 8.9°C against 8.3°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 4.4°C against 4.6°C on the previous night. It was 1.5°C below normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 8.8°C against 7.7°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 0.8°C above normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

Jammu recorded a low of 19.8°C against 20.3°C previous night. It was 1.0°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 7.4°C, Batote 12.0°C, Katra 18.3°C and Bhadarwah 10.0°C. (GNS)

As regards the mercury, he said that Srinagar recorded a low of 9.6°C against 11.8°C on the previous night. The temperature was 1.1°C above normal for the summer capital during this time of the year, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 8.2°C against 10.4°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.9°C above normal there, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 4.9°C against 7.1°C on the previous night and it was 0.4°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of 8.3°C against 8.2°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C below normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 4.6°C against 2.7°C on the previous night. It was 1.3°C below normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 7.7°C against 11.2°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 0.5°C above normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

Srinagar: Weatherman has forecast mainly dry weather with possibility of “isolated light rain and thunder” in Jammu and Kashmir in next 24 hours.

A meteorological department official here said that no large change was expected during the subsequent two days and weather was mostly likely to remain mainly dry.

As regards the mercury, he said that Srinagar recorded a low of 11.4°C, same as on the previous night. The temperature was 2.1°C above normal for the summer capital during this time of the year, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 9.4°C against 9.8°C on the previous night. The temperature was 1.5°C above normal there, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 6.1°C against 6.6°C on the previous night and it was 1.1°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of 10.2°C against 10.6°C the previous night and it was 1.4°C above normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 6.5°C against 6.4°C on the previous night. It was 0.1°C below normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 10.0°C against 9.3°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 2.0°C above normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 6.6°C against 7.2°C on the previous night and it was 1.6°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of 10.6°C against 9.6°C the previous night and it was 1.8°C above normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 6.4°C against 5.0°C on the previous night. It was 0.2°C below normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 9.3°C against 8.0°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 1.3°C above normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

Jammu recorded a low of 22.8°C same as on the previous night. It was 1.4°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 10.4°C, Batote 12.4°C, Katra 22.8°C and Bhadarwah  10.9°C.

Mainly dry weather forecast in Kashmir, light isolated rain in Jammu

Jammu and Kashmir: Weather department on Friday forecast mainly dry weather in Kashmir division and isolated light rain and thunder in Jammu division in next 23 hours.

A meteorological department official here said that isolated to scattered light rain and thunders were expected during the subsequent two days.

Regarding the minimum temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 13.7°C against 13.3°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.9°C above normal for the summer capital during this time of the year, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 15.0°C against 11.0°C on the previous night. The temperature was 4.5°C above normal there, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 9.6°C against 7.8°C on the previous night and it was 3.4°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of 13.3°C against 12.2°C the previous night and it was 3.7°C above normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 8.6°C against 7.5°C on the previous night. It was 1.6°C above normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 10.1°C against 10.7°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 0.8°C above normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

Srinagar – Jammu highway to remain shut for 4 hours daily till Sep 27

Jammu and Kashmir: The Jammu-Srinagar national highway will remain closed for traffic for four hours daily till September 27 to undertake repairs in various landslides prone areas, officials said.
Traffic would be halted from 3 am to 7 am during the repair work, according to the direction issued by Chief Secretary A K Mehta.

To carry out urgent repairs on shooting stone prone NH-44 stretches by NHAI, including Cafeteria Morh-Mehad, the chief secretary called for a four-hour halt of traffic for a period of five days from Friday, they said.

Mehta asked officers to ensure smooth movement of fruit-laden trucks on the highway.
He also asked officers to complete the double lining of stretches between Banihal and Ramban and its subsequent black topping within a period of 10 days.
