Railways track all over Kashmir by December 2022

Kashmir Railways: At a total cost of Rupees 28000 Crore, Jammu and Kashmir to get 272 km railway track along Jammu and Kashmir National Highway.

The Project is already under work from Udhampur – Srinagar– Baramulla.

Meanwhile While talking to General Manager Ashutosh Gangal(Northern Railway) told reporters, that 70% work is complete.

He said that the first section connecting Udhampur – Katra and the third section between Banihal, and Baramulla is also complet with both sections operational. The work to complete the most difficult Katra-Banihal section is underway.

Sections of Railways in Kashmir

  • Udhampur to Katra – 25Km
  • Banihal to Qazigund – 18Km
  • Katra to Banihal – 111Km

The Track also adds 62 Major and Minor Bridges from Udhampur district in Jammu and Baramulla district in Kashmir.

But the problem lies from Katra to Qazigund, as it passes through Patni and Pir Panjal ranges.

  • It covers 139 Km long track
  • With 62 Major and Minor Bridges
  • 35 tunnels under construction

🔰Kashmir valley mostly remains cut off due to landslides and heavy rainfalls on National Highway from Qazigund to Ramban.

🔰To overcome this problem both Govt of India and the Jammu and Kashmir Govt proposed this seamless and hassle-free project in 2002.

🔰Also the Railway track from Banihal to Baramulla is complete and is presently operational.

🔰Furthermore Divisional Commissioner Kashmir recently addressed reporters in Srinagar where he said:

  • Srinagar will get its first Metro till 2028
  • Electricity polls will get replaced with underground power supply lines
  • Bicycle track around famous tourist destination Dal Lake in Srinagar
