In a major development towards providing employment to the youth in Ladakh, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has started with the recruitment process.
Vacancies especially for Non-Gazetted cadre and also allocated a total of around 22,000 posts to the Union Territory. The process of recruitment will start at the level of Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for UT/divisional level posts, Deputy Commissioners-headed agencies for district cadre posts and Subordinate Services Board for Police.
For UT/divisional level, 1031 posts have been identified for which recruitment will be done by SSC in March and April.
For district level (both Leh and Kargil), 800 posts have been identified for which recruitment will be done by Deputy Commissioners-led District Boards as per the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Act.
The UT of Ladakh has been allocated a total of 19878 posts in apportionment from the UT of Jammu and Kashmir and received 2839 more posts. In total it will have around 22,000 posts. UT has to receive 104 Gazetted and 382 Non-Gazetted posts for which the correspondence is on which will take total number of posts in Ladakh to 23,000. Apportionment of 3369 employees is pending for which verification is on.
Recently, the MHA reviewed status of posts and vacancies in Ladakh for 1031 posts for UT/divisional level while it was decided that the district cadre posts will be filled up by the District Boards headed by the Deputy Commissioners which are already functional under the Hill Council Act. Around 800 posts will be filled at the district level immediately while more posts will be available after promotion of the serving staff.
Ladakh administration has decided to give two years age relaxation to the youth in recruitment.
But, Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) are not satisfied with just recruitment process and have decided to go ahead with bandh call for December 13.
Though one of the demands of Apex Body and Alliance was process of recruitment for vacancies but three major demands have not been fulfilled as the Union Home Ministry has not invited them for talks. Four major demands of the Apex Body and Democratic Alliance include Statehood to Ladakh, Sixth Schedule like Constitutional safeguards for the people, two Lok Sabha seats–one each for Leh and Kargil districts and one Rajya Sabha seat.
